My early professional life was as a teacher with Education Queensland, teaching in kindergartens, primary schools and later tertiary in the School of Early Childhood Studies at QUT. My teaching career spanned 24 years prior to a change to counselling.  In the early 1990s, I trained in Transpersonal Counselling. This particular form of Transpersonal Counselling comprises five main modalities of which Sandplay Therapy is one. I have specialised in providing Sandplay Therapy in my private practice for children, adolescents and adults for the past 16 years.

I also provide quality supervision for a range of professionals - counsellors, psychologists and supervisors who are using Sandplay with their clients.

My private practice operates from the Bardon Counselling and Natural Therapies Centre and private rooms at Red Hill.

Since 2004, I have been studying Sandplay Therapy with internationally acclaimed Sandplay teachers, practitioners who are teaching members of the International Society of Sandplay Therapy, ISST. I am currently working towards membership of the ISST, an arduous journey. In 2008, I travelled to the C G Jung Institute, Zurich to participate in the first sandplay training offered by the institute, there were forty other attendees from all over the world. It was a life changing experience for me meeting Dr Eva Pattis and being exposed to her work with traumatised clients.

Sandplay is an open-ended therapeutic approach in which clients express themselves without external guidance. The safe and protected space of the sandbox and therapeutic alliance invites the client’s own inner guidance to express in the tray and the effect is life changing.

My talk has a focus on conscious and unconscious expression in the sand tray. How traumatised clients express in the sand and integrate their traumatic experiences. A deceptively simple method that has profound, life changing effect on the sand players. There is something to be learnt from this work in the sand and it has an application for counselling in general. This will be explored in the talk.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
